Who we work with
Some context on construction labour relations and who we work with
There is over 130 years of history of collective bargaining between local building trades unions and various iterations of Ottawa contractor associations. See “WHERE IT ALL BEGAN” in ABOUT OTTAWA CLRA.
Over the years the legislative framework for construction labour relations has evolved significantly in Ontario with the predominant feature being collective agreements are based on 7 sectors of the industry (ICI, Residential, Sewers & Water, Roads, Heavy Engineering, Pipeline and Electrical Power systems).
Ottawa CLRA represents firms specifically working in the ICI (Industrial, Commercial and Institutional) sector of the construction industry under provincial collective agreements with each of the 3 trade unions. There are in total 27 provincial ICI trade collective agreements all with a common 3-year term expiring April 30, 2028.
The Ottawa CLRA is one of 13 local area employer associations and each association works with their local area representatives.

Visitors to the member directory should be aware that the list is not totally representative of firms bound to the 3 unions as there are other construction sectors where collective agreements are negotiated. For more detail contact Manager John DeVries.
